Retaining talent is an investment in long-term success and sustainability
Investing in a successful recruitment process is just the beginning. You know who you want, you know what you want them to do -you got them- and as of day 1, they're joining your team. But what can you do to ensure you keep them with your organisation as part of a growing team of the right talent?
- Outline: Make sure that every member of your team knows what they're walking into from the start. As a minimum a clear job description will help, but a quality induction and training programme, clearly defined objectives and clarity in the information they are provided will ensure that everyone knows where they are from the beginning.
- Engage: Involve every member of your team, make them feel part of the successes you achieve together and they will be more committed to making that happen. Every employee across your organisation, however big or small that number may be, deserves to be treated with equal respect. If each member of the team is engaged in an organisational mission to be accomplished together - why would they consider going elsewhere?
- Incentivise: Offer the right mix of rewards, benefits and recognition. It's not all about financial incentives either. Often, knowing that flexibility, support and a positive working environment is available can be far more crucial to an individual than knowing what they need to do to achieve a salary increase. Remember you're working with people, not robots and measure your approach for the individuals.
- Invest: Train and develop your teams, show them that you want to see them progress within your organisation. Help them look to the future both in and outside your company and you will nurture their aspirations. Loyalty is rewarded with loyalty.
An involved and engaged workforce will not only work productively for your bottom line, but will become active advocates of your employer brand across their personal and professional networks, helping you attract the next talented members of your team.
